Parachute Linen Sheets – REVIEW

If you want to up your bedding game and are interested in trying out linen sheets, Parachute is the brand I’d 100% recommend!

  • 100% European flax

  • OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 16.HUS.93300 Hohenstein HTTI.

  • Made in Portugal

  • Machine washable

PROS AND CONS: I’ve had a linen sheet set from another brand before, and Parachute linen is far superior. They’re softer, breathable, and way more durable. My old linen sheets somehow weren’t as breathable, and I felt like they were pretty scratchy and hot. With that said, Parachute linen sheets come with a high price tag. I’d recommend waiting to buy when they go on sale or just going for it if you have the budget.

My Parachute sheets arrived just a couple of days before the Black Friday weekend, so I had to assemble the bedding right away after I got home from a trip (just so I could create the content I had originally agreed on posting). I usually would like to wash my sheets before sleeping in them since my skin is sensitive and prone to get red/itchy. Knowing that linen is naturally wrinkly, I was surprised at how little steaming I had to do when setting up the bed. I ended up sleeping in my new Parachute sheets for one night and then up sleeping in them for over two weeks. They felt like they needed no break-in period, and it was so nice.

After the first wash, the sheets looked and felt practically like new. Maybe they did feel a tad bit softer, but again, they were so pleasant. It’s been over a month now, and to be honest with you, these sheets are the reasons that make me excited to get into bed every time!

If you’re looking for cotton, try these. I have the cream set, and they were my favorite and lasted me years until these linen sheets came around! I love my linen, but if I were to pick, cotton sheets would always win!

This throw blanket now sits on my sofa. Again, it’s like any cotton sweater, it’s warm and lightweight, but not suffocating. And I love that it blends in with my Floyd sofa and throw pillows perfectly.

How to Wash, Dry, and Care for Your Linen Sheets

WASH – Linen is a natural fiber, so always proceed with care!

  • The best water temperature is lukewarm water, not too cold nor too hot. Hot water can cause shrinkage. Parachute linen is machine washable, but handwashing linen is always a better option.

  • The same rule applies to linen or any other fabrics; you do want to make sure you wash with like colors and like light-weight materials to avoid color transfer or damage.

  • Set your washing machine to a gentle or delicate cycle and select a warm-water setting.

  • Opt for mild detergent or dilute your concentrated laundry soap before adding to the load (to prevent staining!).

  • Many people wash their sheets weekly, I do mine every other 2 – 3 weeks, or sometimes up to a month.

DRY – Air-drying linen is always better as it supports the longevity and integrity of linen. I do a hybrid approach because I don’t like how stiff the sheets are after air-drying.

  • Remember: tumble-dried on a low heat setting. Depending on your drying machine, I’d suggest pulling the sheets out before the cycle is done and letting them air dry the rest of the way. Hang or lay the sheets flat on any open surfaces or well-ventilated area in your home. In the summer, you can certainly let them air dry outdoors.

  • Have you tried wool dryer balls? I’ve heard they help fluff up the sheets and reduce wrinkles on fabric.

CARE – Again, the same linen clothing care rules apply to linen sheets.

  • Opt for a steamer instead of an iron, but again, keep the heat setting to the lowest, always. Linen is supposed to give a relaxed and lived-in appearance!

  • Treating stains: vinegar, baking soda, or OxiClean

  • To store, it’s best to use fabric bags as plastic can trap moisture and promote mildew.

5. How to style and layer your bed

Remember, your mattress is the foundation, and some brands have options for a built-in mattress topper that can add comfort. I like the look of a low-profile bed, so a bed frame with storage underneath that can be taken apart for easy transport is a very important criterion. Then you should always have a mattress cover, a layer made from water-repellant material, in case of water spillage.

Next, you’d need a fitted sheet, aka a sheet with elastic around the edges that protects the mattress and that’s the layer that you lay on directly. Then there’s a flat sheet aka the sheet that separates you from the comforter/duvet insert and duvet cover.

To style a bed, keep in mind texture, volume, and comfort.

And that’s why I think pillows and duvets are very important when it comes to making the functional bed look good. Opt for down as it’s one of the best and fluffiest filling materials for pillows and duvet inserts.

  • Pillows: Start with Euro pillows or shams for support as they’re often time placed behind your actual sleeping pillow. Then for the actual pillow/s that you sleep on, you have options such as soft, medium, or firm. Are you a side or back sleeper or combo? Lastly, there are the decorative pillows, and options are limitless – lumbar pillow, body pillow, sham, or any fun pillows that help unify the look of the bed.
  • Duvet insert + cover: Again, it’s really up to you and how hot or cold of a sleeper you are. I have two duvet inserts, one fluffy and can keep me quite warm (but it’s currently in storage) and one that’s thinner but works for all seasons. Winter in NYC isn’t as extreme, so I haven’t had to change out my bedding set-up much. Some people use two duvet inserts for the volume, but I find it super impractical.

There’s also an even number rule for pillows. Start with two sleeping pillows if you have a full or queen bed, then you should add a third one, such as a lumbar pillow, placed right in the middle and in front. Since my bedframe doesn’t come with a headboard, I find that having two supporting pillows placed right behind my two sleeping pillows is practical and effective. I use my CB2 sphere pillow as a decorative pillow, so that makes my pillow count five, and that actually makes the bed feel more complete!

Many people have a theme for each bed/bedding that they build, but I find it impractical and ‘decorative.’ I want mine to look lived in, so I don’t even have my bed made most days. A lumbar pillow would be the next last thing I’d add because I love lower back and leg support sometimes! A lumbar or long rectangular pillow looks much better than any square pillows, if you ask me!
