I have been on a mission to transform my bathroom by replacing one ugly product at a time. It starts with skincare to haircare products and now shower products. After so many rounds of trials and errors, I have finally narrowed it down to a list of the 5 best shower gels and oils from brands that I love. They do not only look good but do a great job at cleansing the skin without stripping it.

1. NÉCESSAIRE The Body Wash

Nécessaire is a brand with products like body wash, lotion, and sex gel that I’ve seen popping up on my Instagram feed very often. The brand is founded by Nick Axelrod, an Into The Gloss co-founder and ex-editor director, and Randi Christiansen who used to work at Estée Lauder Companies. Sustainability and clean beauty are huge these days, and I am glad Nécessaire has gone for that route. Their product packaging is gorgeous, and I am glad that the formulation also lives up to its hype!

I have the Fragrance-Free body wash and lotion. There is only one scentless version for the lotion, but the body wash comes in Sandalwood or Eucalyptus as well. The body wash is a gel-oil hybrid that foams up lightly with water. It is formulated from mild plant-derived surfactants, three luxe oils—marula, cacao, and meadowfoam which hydrates and softens skin. I love that it is gentle and does not leave my skin feeling dry at all. It has a pH level of 5.5–6.5 which supports our body’s natural pH.

I love the fragrance-free lotion as it is light and non-greasy, but I wish I’ve got the body wash with some scents to use in the shower instead. But I’m sure I’ll pick up the body wash in other scents to try once this product runs out. Nécessaire offers these in sets, so you can save some money that way. I am a big fan!

2. Glossier. Body Hero Daily Oil Wash

I am sure Glossier needs no introduction on my blog at this point. I’ve done many Glossier product reviews: Glossier Play The Playground video, Glossier brand focus, and Glossier You perfume blog post.

For $18, this body wash is a great buy for its value. Just like clothes, I go for different shower gel or body wash every day depending on my mood. I’ve had the Body Hero for months, and there’s a lot left. It is a yellow oil cleanser that turns frothy when it mixes with water. It’s got a seven-oil blend, and the subtly citrus baby fresh scent is from the Orange Blossom Neroli Blend. I’d describe the scent as the scent of some stores when a fancy candle is being lit. The pink and red packaging is also so cute and trendy, and it makes me smile every time!

The Body Hero retails for $18, but I’d suggest getting a duo: body wash and lotion, and use Glossier Rep code for an additional 10% off.

3. AESOP A Rose By Any Other Name Body Cleanser

Aesop is an Australian skin, hair, and body care brand, headquartered in Melbourne. Establishes in 1987, the brand now has offices and stores worldwide. I love stopping by the Aesop store to try out their products. There are 2 stores in Seattle, one in Fremont and one in Capitol Hill, so make sure to stop by if you’re in the area! You’ll be served a cup of tea by a well-informed staff and go home with tons of samples. Don’t forget to take a photo because every Aesop store is a piece of art and design!

I had a very hard time picking out a scent here at Aesop. I went for A Rose By Any Other Name body cleanser because it’s got the rose scent that I know does not give me a headache. It smells floral, spicy, and warm and makes my skin feel clean and fresh. I love that it comes in a clear gel-like consistency, and all I need is a small squeeze or two. I’ve got a smaller 6.7 oz bottle that does not come with a pump. I don’t quite remember if the additional pump cost me anything, but I remember having to switch from a flip cap to a pump. So make sure to ask for the pump if you are at their store. Anyway, I’d totally pick up a bigger bottle of different scents to try once this runs out! Their hand wash and hand balm duo is also very iconic. I’m so tempted to pick those up and replace my current sink situation.

4. LE LABO Shower Gel Hinoki

Hinoki is a type of Japanese wood or tree that surrounds Buddhist temples in Mount Koya, Japan. Out of all of the shower gels in this blog post, this one has the strongest scent out of all of the 5. If you are a fan of warm woody manly scents, you’ll love this scent! It is a thick and rich lathering shower gel made from plant-based ingredients. There are sesame, rosemary leaf, and sunflower oil that help to nourish and tone the skin.

I picked this shower gel up from the Le Labo store in Capitol Hill, just a few stores down from Totokaelo, my favorite shopping neighborhood to go to in Seattle. If you’re near one of their stores, make sure to come in and smell their perfumes. Nordstrom in downtown Seattle also has a Le Labo section, and they do make their perfume in-store and customize the packaging with your name on the label. They also make body wash that has the same scents as their perfumes.

5. L’OCCITANE Cleansing And Softening Shower Oil With Almond Oil

The shower oil contains almond oil that L’Occitane sources from a very special region in Haute Provence, France. It is a very well-known shower oil that I cannot forget to include in this top 5 list. The oil transforms into a milky foam upon contact with water, and the fresh almond scent smells very different on every skin. I love that my skin is noticeably moisturized, smooth, and soft after every use. I got it for my aunt for Christmas one time, and she’s been repurchasing it ever since. My boyfriend also uses it, and I love how it smells on him. It’s so soft, too! One thing I wish was for it to be a little thicker in consistency so that a bottle like this would last me longer!

They sell a refill pack and a bigger version of this almond shower oil, too! So check them out below!
